This place has been talk of the town for a while now, so when we went walking by N2 Extreme Gelato in the Chinatown neck of the woods we just had to go check it out.
This place is super cool (no pun intended). The walls are painted in chalkboard paint where the many gelato inspirations adorn them in creative and comical design. The staff wear lab coats, and the gelato mixers are stored in Erlenmeyer Flasks.
The basic concept behind this place is flavour+liquid nitrogen+mixer=Gelato goodness. Some selections have classic ice cream flavour appeal, others a challenge for the less adventurous. You will see flavours such as: Creme Brulee, Oreo Cheesecake, Smoked Maple featuring Bacon, Lemon Lime & Bitters, Rhubarb, Banoffee, Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn, Milk Chocolate & Hazelnuts, Avocado Coffee & Vanilla…the list goes on and on. If you visit their website you can have a look for yourself. Alternatively they also have a ‘submit your flavour’ section if you have a dream that needs to be realised.
We ordered the Banoffee (Banana & Caramel), Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn, and the Chocolate & Hazelnut. The predominant taste in all was full cream, leave your diets at home. Maybe a little too much for my taste however the others were pretty happy with it. The other flavours were subtle and the peppercorns, absent possibly? Still, still worth the effort for some of the smoothest gelato you will find in Sydney.
